pansyWhere did the summer go?  But now that fall is upon us, here are some ideas to ease the transition.

Plant pansies for beautiful outdoor color.  As your summer blooms fade, pansies will take you well into the fall.  Be sure and press a few (pick in the early morning) for decorating projects

pillowsChange pillows to go with the season.  Deeper hues and softer fabrics prepare you for longer winter evenings, especially when coupled with a chenille throw or two!

lighting

As the sunshine begins to fade earlier and earlier, prepare your indoor lighting.  Add lamps wherever you need to bring in extra lighting – three is a minimum for a seating area.  And don’t forget about accent lighting for those dark corners.

Tired of that dull Formica backsplash? Cover it with pre-pasted wallpaper.  Pick out a pattern with the appearance of tile.

If you took my advice from my June/July newsletter, you put up sheers at your windows.  Instead of taking them down, try stenciling them down the sides and across the bottom with fabric paint.  Metallic is especially nice. And don’t forget to leave time in your schedule for long walks at this glorious time of year
