While we are heading into a beautiful time of year, we're also
preparing to spend more time indoors. And while we've been
spending so much time outside, we may take a look around and decide
some changes might be in order. Here are some ideas to help
you prepare for beautiful times indoors.
-
Plants can add warmth and softness to a room, especially during
the chilly days ahead. You might consider moving some of
your outdoor pots of annuals indoors to enjoy over the winter. You'd
be surprised at the number of them that will winter well indoors,
especially if the light is good.
-
Or consider adding green indoor plants to your décor. And
if you don't have a green thumb, check out the beautiful faux
silk ones available at places like Home Goods.
-
Regardless of the season, plants will definitely add some
softness and warmth to areas that don't have much in the way
of fabrics to add texture. Kitchens in particular are
prone to coldness, especially if they feature stainless steel
appliances or granite counter tops.
-
If plants of any sort aren't your ilk (even fake ones require
dusting!), the clear glass apothecary jars that come in all shapes
and sizes can hold fruits and vegetables of the season, adding
some warm colors to cooler spaces.
-
Try brightening your spaces with flowers, if not of the season
(not much blooms in the cold weather), at least with the softer,
more muted colors of the season.
-
Or maybe it's a new coat of paint that will help spruce things
up for you. Try getting creative! Add a chair rail
using paint, separated by a white stripe. Paint the ceiling
to match the walls. Or add crown moldings or a tray ceiling where
there really isn't one. The possibilities are endless!
Whatever you decide to do, make sure you make your home say 'welcome'
when you enter the door. After all, it's your sanctuary during
the chilly days ahead! |
