When taking down those holiday decorations,
why not switch the displayed objects from one room to another? And
while you’re at it, check out the attic and basement for
forgotten treasures just waiting for their turn to shine!
And
while you’re at it, try switching lamps and small tables. You
may be amazed at the change – at no cost!
Tired of the same old lamps? Hot
glue bead or crystal trim from the fabric or craft
store around the bottom of the shade for an entirely
new look. Top with a crystal finial for a nice
finish.
Is the coat closet a disaster? Try painting a wooden
plaque (from the craft store) and adding fancy doorknobs for a
unique coat rack. Or make a smaller version using cabinet
knobs to keep those keys in a safe, convenient place.
Copy
a favorite picture from a magazine, enlarging it if necessary,
mat and frame it for new wall art. Or blow up old photographs
and do the same thing. The grainy finish adds interest (particularly
on black and white photos.)
This is the time of year we need to remember
spring will come! If fresh flowers just don’t
last long enough, try forcing hyacinth bulbs to bloom. In a
tall container that allows half of the bulb to remain above water
(inexpensive vases for this purpose can be purchased from craft stores
and garden centers), place the bulb root side down. Keep the
water at this same level and wait. You will be rewarded with
a lovely, fragrant bloom that lasts for weeks!
