Because so many of us work from a home office, either full or part-time, or at the very least have a space to take care of household needs, I'm devoting this entire Design Tips to suggestions to make our home work space more inviting.

  • Move the office from your bedroom! Keep your bedroom as a sanctuary and find a spare room, a nook, or even the dining room to house work activities.
  • Make the space inviting by painting it a warm color, one that will inspire you.
  • If possible, add a chair for guests, or so you will have a comfortable place to sit and think.
  • An area rug will define the space and add warmth.
  • Make certain the desk area has proper lighting.
  • Have some of your favorite things around you, things that will make you smile when you take a break from your work.
  • Keep everything organized by using baskets, pretty boxes, or trunks to house the clutter.

Just don't make your office so inviting you'll want to spend too much time there. After all, spring is here and the world outside is calling!
