Living-Room-Fireplace.jpgThe holidays are over and winter has really set in.  So what can you to do keep cheery throughout the long days?  Try a few of these suggestions!

  • Rearrange your furniture for intimate conversations, preferably around the fireplace.  Make certain people can easily converse, then invite the neighbors over to try it out.
  • And on your newly arranged furniture, be sure and put lots of soft throws and pillows.  Chenille is a great winter fabric just made for cuddling.
  • Use candles.  I know I repeat this every year, but candlelight goes a long way towards lighting the cold, dark days of winter.  Buy a couple of inexpensive glass hurricanes from the arts and craft store, put in pillar candles with a soothing aroma, and you’re set!
  • Change your area rug under the seating area to something soft and cozy.  I’ve even seen these in chenille – perfect for frosty feet!  Just make sure it’s at least 5’ x 8’ to ground the seating area.
  • Buy some great books to put on tables in your new seating area to encourage people to linger.

Now, make yourself some hot chocolate (I love Ghiradelli’s), start the fire, grab one of those books and a throw and you’re all set.  Before you know it, the family will be joining you!
