Summertime – the time for vacations, family reunions, and lots of visitors.  To make your summer entertaining even more memorable, try some of these tips.

  • Bring out your quilts and use for outdoor tablecloths.  Or if your quilts are a bit too nice, purchase one or two with imperfections at bargain basement prices and use those instead.
  • A great hostess gift for a weekend visit is a basket lined with a dishtowel and filled with everything you need to make dinner one evening.  Try spaghetti, sauce, Parmesan, crusty bread, red wine and flowers for the table.
  • When you’re entertaining, have some rainy day entertainment handy, like a jigsaw puzzle kept up and convenient for all who pass by.
  • Or try playing “Name That Relative” at family gatherings.  Provide baskets of old photos and a corresponding list of possible names to match with the pictures.
  • Keep a travel guide with local attractions in guest rooms so guests will feel free to determine what strikes their fancy.
  • If you live near the beach, have pails for the children filled with plastic shovels, something to hold water, a toy boat, and bubble soap.
  • And most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy your time, either with your guests, or as a guest yourself!
