As we go into the last relaxing
days of summer, we realize it's time to start gearing up
for the activities of fall - followed shortly by the holidays? Revitalizing
our homes can help boost our energy levels for the changing
seasons. Here are a few tips to help you do just that!
- Now
that it's almost time to use your fireplace, refresh it
as the focal point of your room. Bring drama with
large artwork and darker accessories. Or create drama
using only accessories. Just make certain they are large
enough to make a statement.
- Instead of flowers, make an arrangement with branches. Use
dark stones or marbles rather than clear to keep them in
place.
-
Add texture to accessories by incorporating woven materials
(including wicker) into arrangements.
-
Texture is also important in fabrics. Add chenille
pillows and throws to furniture. Change the sisal
rug to wool. Even faux furs and sheep skins add
warmth and texture - just use them in moderation!
-
Now may be the time to add a bit more oomph to your
windows. If you've left them bare or with only
a valance, consider adding panels. Not only will
they make the feel cozier, closing them during cold days
and nights will help your energy bill. Just make
sure the panels will open so that the window can be fully
exposed. This will help bring light in on some
of the dreary days of fall!
